GENERAL ENQUIRIES
We receive regular calls from customers requesting a quote to replace a lift.
The first question I have is why do you need to replace your lift and the response is generally that “my lift company says it is obsolete, so it needs replacing”.
Most lift companies like replacing older lifts that are not their own products, so they have an easier lift to maintain and the new lift technology locks the customer in for many years to come. This is great for the lift company but, maybe, not so much for the customer.
I always recommend that we make a thorough assessment of the lift to see if an upgrade to the control system, doors or drive system is appropriate. Sometimes our conclusions are that, yes, your is at the end of its life and needs to be totally replaced. However, it is more often the case that an upgrade (modernisation) is the more suitable option.
For example, a control system upgrade is the most common solution to making lifts reliable. This may cost 40-50K and put your lift out of action for a couple of weeks. Replacing a small lift with lift removal, building works and the new lift the cost will generally exceed 200K and the building will have no lift for 2 months or more.
A more complex modernisation may require a controller, doors and motor. This will generally be significantly cheaper than a new lift but can be spread out over years. The owners can then plan and save for the works over time, an important consideration.
Our company offers free lift assessments and price guides to customers who need to carefully consider their options. We will always give you are honest opinion and work in your best interests.
